Draft for legal review · Version serveup-launch-2026-10-17-v3

Terms of Service

Effective 2026-10-17. Read these Terms before checking the agreement box. This draft describes the intended launch. Owner details and attorney review remain required before public registration.

Who operates ServeUp

ServeUp is a student-built volunteer-opportunity board. General, privacy, and safety inquiries should be directed to the official platform support channels.

These Terms describe the available account, published-listing, registration, organizer-application, service-record, export and optional private-streak features. Separate fictional examples and simulated searches remain labeled and cannot be registered. Published listings are submitted through the organization workflow; listing or application review is not a guarantee of safety or attendance.

Age and your account

Accounts are for people aged 13 or older. By agreeing, you declare that you are at least 13. This self-declaration is not age or identity verification. Follow applicable parent, guardian, school and organization requirements; your agreement cannot supply another person’s authorization. Do not use ServeUp if you are under 13. Contact support if you believe an under-13 account exists.

Provide accurate information, use your own account, keep passwords and authenticator codes private, and report suspected unauthorized access. Staff must satisfy mailbox, authenticator and independently assigned authority checks. Selecting Organizer at signup only expresses interest and grants no role.

Acceptable use and truthful records

Do not impersonate others, falsify hours or authority, submit duplicate service claims, approve your own work, harass people, upload malicious files, evade access or rate controls, or post private contact, health, payment or identity documents. Record completed work and actual time honestly. Use withdrawal, correction, reversal or appeal processes to address mistakes.

Follow the actual organizer’s eligibility, supervision and safety arrangements. Ask a responsible adult when needed. ServeUp does not supervise events, perform background checks, or guarantee a placement, accessible venue, safe participant or emergency response.

Organizations, schools and service records

Organizer approval requires independently reviewed current authority evidence, safety-cleared files and applicable conflict checks. Supply only necessary evidence you have permission to share; never government IDs or student rosters. Evidence can be quarantined, rejected, retained briefly after finalization or held for a justified review. Uploading a file does not guarantee approval. Continuing authority can expire or be revoked.

ServeUp is not an agent of a school. Each school or club decides whether to accept service credit. Hours and exports reflect saved review decisions, not signed certificates, proof of identity or attendance, or a guarantee of credit. Original reviewed facts and applied corrections remain distinguishable. Organizations may retain justified shared review facts when an actor leaves.

Permission to provide the service

You retain ownership of content you submit. You grant the operator a limited, nonexclusive permission to store, process, reproduce and display it only as needed to provide and secure ServeUp, authorized reviews and requested exports. Submit only content you are entitled to provide. This permission does not authorize unrelated advertising or sale of personal information.

Public visitors see minimized eligible published listing information. Full details require sign-in and any enrolled authenticator. Email, registrations, private goals, applications and service history are not a public student directory. Currently authorized organization staff and independent reviewers see only records within their permitted scope. The public Privacy Policy explains collection and access.

Choices that remain separate

Name sharing, browser location permission, private streaks, authenticator enrollment and optional AI search remain separate choices. Agreement does not switch them on, register you for a task, appoint an adult or authorize school data processing.

AI interpretation starts disabled. If enabled, OpenAI gpt-4o-mini receives bounded user requests, prior search filters and public task categories. It receives no listing text, precise location, credentials, account records or assistant transcript from ServeUp. Direct volunteering facts and refusals are assembled by the server. Keep personal information out of requests. ServeUp keeps usage counters, not a saved chat transcript; provider handling follows its policies. Answers can be wrong or incomplete: check current listing details. Manual search remains available. Local Ollama is development-only and unavailable in production.

Features not currently available

Messaging, institutional programs and external sourcing/community events are not currently available for launch. Enabling any of them requires a new Terms version and explicit acceptance, together with their separate operational and legal prerequisites. No message moderation team, institutional partnership or source permission is implied.

If permissioned community events become available after that review, they will be attributed, not affiliated with or endorsed by ServeUp, and will not support ServeUp registration or approved hours. Organization-visible messaging would not be a private conversation with one adult. No dates for these features are promised.

Privacy, retention and leaving

Read the public Privacy Policy and signed-in Privacy and deletion page. You may export your approved service history and request account deletion there. Withdrawing a registration is not an erasure request. Deletion revokes access, removes stored files before the Auth account, cascades owned records and removes personal actor references from justified shared facts. A failed step remains pending rather than claiming success. Evidence, institutional or justified safeguarding holds can delay deletion.

Finalized evidence is normally eligible for removal after the implemented 30-day period unless held; pending evidence stays actionable until finalization or expiry. Original ledger facts, limited shared audit proof and provider backups can have longer lifetimes in accordance with standard retention schedules. These Terms do not promise instant erasure of backups or waive statutory rights. You may open Privacy and deletion or sign out without accepting a newer Terms version.

Safety, suspension and third-party services

This is not an emergency service. For immediate danger, contact local emergency services and a responsible adult. Send privacy, record or safeguarding concerns to official platform support channels. Do not put sensitive details in public listings.

The operator may restrict or suspend access to investigate misuse, loss of authority, security problems or safety reports; a suspension does not silently alter reviewed hours. Contact support to challenge an error. You can stop using the service. Supabase, the selected host and email provider support operation; location providers and map links apply only when used. Their availability and policies are separate. No advertising or analytics integration is included.

Disclaimers and responsibility

To the extent permitted by applicable law, ServeUp is provided on an 'as is' and 'as available' basis without a promise of uninterrupted operation, accurate third-party listings, placement, credit or suitability. Nothing excludes rights or duties that cannot lawfully be excluded.

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the platform operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of or related to your use of the service.

You agree to use ServeUp responsibly and in compliance with all applicable local regulations and school policies.

These Terms and any disputes arising out of or related to the service shall be governed by and construed in accordance with applicable governing laws.

Changes, receipts and contact

A material Terms change uses a new version and explicit acceptance. ServeUp records the version, document SHA-256, time and whether agreement occurred at signup or later. No IP address or browser fingerprint is collected for this agreement receipt. Earlier receipts are not rewritten or silently reused.

Read the current version before agreeing. For questions or support regarding these Terms, please reach out via official platform contact channels.

Install ServeUp & offline details

Chrome / Android: an Install ServeUp button appears only when your browser offers installation. You can also look for an install option in the browser menu. Availability varies by browser.

iPhone / iPad: open ServeUp in Safari, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen. If shown, enable Open as Web App, then tap Add.

Use HTTPS on a hosted site. Localhost is for development; an ordinary HTTP Wi-Fi address does not enable offline support or installation.

Only approved public images, icons, fonts and a generic reconnect page are saved for offline use. Account pages, listings, sign-in, registration and chat require a connection. Review an interrupted submission’s status online before retrying.
